With its year-round temperate weather and ideal desert location, North Scottsdale is home to several gorgeous golf communities. One of the first golf communities built in North Scottsdale is Troon Country Club. Located east of Alma School Road, at the base of Troon Mountain. The course was designed by Tom Weiskoph and Jay Morrish, and is a private club for the members of the country club. (Troon North, by contrast, has a public course). This course, known for its wide fairways and fantastic mountain views, was rated a Top 100 Course in the United States by Golf Digest Magazine. The Country Club also features two bunker and chipping facilities, a large putting green, as well as a double-sided driving range. Troon Village contains several subdivisions surrounding and near the golf course, providing golf course as well as mountain views.

Another beautiful golf community in North Scottsdale is that of Whisper Rock. Located northwest of Scottsdale Road and Lone Mountain Road, this guard-gated community features a “lower” 18 hole course designed by Phil Mickelson, as well as another “upper” 18-hole course designed by Tom Fazio. The golf club also features a 30 tee driving range. Membership in the Whisper Rock Golf Club is limited to 580, in keeping with the community feel of the neighborhood with its 200 single-family homes.
Desert Mountain in the northernmost region of Scottsdale, bordering nearby Cave Creek and Carefree, features the world’s largest collection of championship courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. These six courses, with 108 holes, provide opportunities for individual play at various skill levels. Ranging from the intimidating Geronimo with its 160-yard, par 3 last hole over a canyon to the most recent Outlaw course with its Scottish links design, there is a course for everyone. The golf practice facilities are extensive, with multiple pitching, chipping, putting and bunker areas, and four separate practice ranges with target greens. The most recent addition is the $1.6 million Jim Flick Golf Performance Center which features 3-D motion capture, Doppler radar and four-camera video motion analysis to help golfers improve and understand their game. There are a wide range of homes available in Desert Mountain, from single-family to condos to townhomes.
The Mirabel community is located just south and southeast of Desert Mountain, in a beautiful patch of the Sonoran Desert at 3,000 feet elevation. Mirabel features the Tom Fazio designed championship-level, 7,147-yard, par-71 18 hole course. This prestigious club offers a caddie program, as well as on course comfort and chef stations. Mirabel was recognized by Golf Digest as one of “America’s 50 Best Modern Golf Courses.” This guard-gated golf community offers both luxury single family homes as well as condos.
Centrally located just southwest of Pinnacle Peak and Pima Roads is the Pinnacle Peak Country Club. Boasting a more traditional parkland style course with Bentgrass greens, this par 72 championship course is a 7,030 yard Dick Turner design. A nearby large practice range and putting-chipping facility are available, as are five PGA Golf Professionals, to help hone golfing skills. This guarded gated community consists of both custom and semi-custom homes.
